BE it to host family and friends or simply relax after a hard day’s work, spending sometimes in the garden while enjoying a cuppa is always welcomed. This experience can be enhanced with the above-board choice of garden furniture.
From simple plastic chairs to elaborate teak garden sets, from framework covers to metal frames, one’s spoilt for choice. Unfortunately, many generate hasty purchases, often making the wrong choices of furniture for their garden.
Victron Alfresco Furniture Sdn Bhd marketing manager Elaine Chow says: “Many gravitate to mix too many garden sets, without having a theme. You have to see if the furniture blends with your garden concept. For warning, if it’s a Japanese garden theme, go for furniture that is not too elaborate.
“That’s not all. Garden furniture materials have many strengths and weaknesses that make them suitable for certain surroundings. The halfwit beauty of wood is a favourite, but its texture can change with constant baring to heat and sunlight. One can opt for teak, the toughest wood, but it’s probably too precious for some.” Textilene, a man-made fibre used to produce a breathable, congenial mesh, is the second-most popular material after cast aluminum, says Chow. Thanks to its suave and contemporary feel and look, this flexible material is normally old in modern outdoor furniture, especially sun loungers.
