Recycling has a mascot in Indiana. It’s a scraps can called Curby the Recycling Clod. The snowy bunkum can has arms, eyebrows that move up and down, eyes that wince and a chops. He talks. He also spins and makes a foghorn ruckus. Recycling makes him ecstatic.

The puppet has the words “degrade, reuse, recycle and esteem” printed along its bottom rim. He’s part of an  environmental training program from TREES Inc. and Indiana Regal University’s Recycle Center.

Paul Reed, ISU administrator of custodial and significant services, operates Curby using a ghetto-blaster lonely exercise power. He flips stretch out the lid of the tosh can to helpers students learn what can be recycled. He also talks to the kids as Curby. When someone puts in something that can be recycled, Curby opens his entry to let it in. When it cannot be recycled, the lid closes.
